Come learn more about our faculty-led exchange programs from around the world! You will have the opportunity to speak with a Global Engineering Fellow about finding the right program and schedule an appointment with them or a member of the Global Engineering Engagement team. You can stop by the Education Abroad booth to talk with an adviser or get started with an application. Financial aid staff will also be available to discuss funding for your abroad experience.

Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship (HESE) Program – All Majors

Stop by to see John Gershenson, the director of the Penn State Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship (HESE) program to learn about its work in East Africa. Through a series of five courses, HESE teams systematically advance ventures over multiple years with aspirations for large-scale commercialization and dissemination. Lima, Peru: Cross-Cultural Engagement – Faculty-Led Summer Program – All Majors

Stop by to learn more about this faculty-led summer program to Lima, Peru. Students will spend four weeks taking three credits of Spanish and three credits of sustainable global society in Peru. Students will approach challenges and leadership from an interdisciplinary perspective, analyzing the role of scientific knowledge in sustainable international development. Engineering Leadership Development Minor (ELD) and Engineering Leadership Society (ELS) – All Majors

The Engineering Leadership Development (ELD) program focuses on providing a challenging, relevant, and dynamic world-class program that further engages students in their education while preparing them for leadership roles in a technical work environment. Temple Rome – Semester Program – Most Majors

The Temple Rome program offers courses integral to your engineering degree in a setting where you will truly appreciate how modern engineering developed and the role of engineering in shaping the world, while also immersing yourself in Italian language and culture. Engineering students will be able to enroll in three major required courses including EMCH 213, EMCH 212, and ME 300 in addition to one to two additional courses from a wide range of offerings in other disciplines. Come talk to the Office of Student Aid about how to apply for federal, state, and institutional financial aid, what types of aid are available and eligibility requirements for each type.


National Institute of Science and Technology (INSA) Lyon – Summer Program INSA Lyon, National Institute of Science and Technology, is a leading engineering school in France

Study European perspectives in engineering and innovation at one of France’s leading engineering schools during this four-week program. Experience innovative and interactive teaching, including site visits to businesses. Course topics include connected devices and smart services or management and innovation. You will also become acquainted with French culture and study either beginning, intermediate, or advanced French. This program is open to computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering students. More information »


Architectural Engineering, Rome, Italy – Faculty-Led Summer Program

The Architectural Engineering Rome Summer Program has customarily been an opportunity for architectural engineering students to complete architectural theory and design requirements in their curriculum. Due to curriculum changes and other changes in the study abroad landscape, we are re-inventing the program for summer 2022. The courses will be less specific to architectural engineering and of more general interest. More information »


DIS – Study Abroad in Scandinavia – Semester and Summer Programs – Open to Several Majors

Stop by to talk with Peter Shapiro from the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) to explore the Stockholm summer and semester engineering and the Copenhagen engineering programs. Students in biological engineering, biomedical engineering, and computer science will find that these programs work well for their schedules that will help them stay on track while still getting to study abroad. Cross-Cultural Engagement and Technical Presentation, Italy/Switzerland – Faculty-Led Summer Program – All Majors

Stop by to talk with faculty leaders to learn more about how students in the College of Engineering can participate in this faculty-led summer program for 3 weeks and earn 6 credits. Participants of this program will collaborate with students from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland as they learn how to deliver effective technical presentations in a European setting and are introduced to Italian language, and the culture of northern Italy and Switzerland’s Italian language-speaking canton of Ticino. Summers By Design Programs in SEDTAPP – Faculty-Led Summer Programs – All Majors

Stop by to see Elizabeth Starkey from the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP) to learn more about their faculty-led summer 2022 programs in Berlin, Germany; Navarro, Spain; and Singapore. Content is delivered by Penn State instructors and instructors at host universities with local and regional expertise. In addition, students will learn to function in cross-cultural engineering design teams, partnering with students from both the U.S. and other global institutions. While enrolled in the course, participants will also experience many cultural activities relevant to the part of the world in which they find themselves, including partaking in local cuisine, visiting historical landmarks, and interacting with local engineering companies. This is an ideal program for Penn State engineering students as it allows students the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program while still having time to return home to complete a summer engineering internship.
