Australia and New Zealand Semester Programs

Below are semester-long study abroad programs in Australia and New Zealand designed for College of Engineering students. However, you are not limited to these options. Australia. Arcadia: Brisbane, University of Queensland

Engineering students in EE, BME, and CMPEN have the opportunity to study in Brisbane through a program organized through Arcadia, a third-party provider. Depending on the course of study, students may also go on short study trips or excursions to learn more about Australian culture and trek through the coastal landscapes. The fall semester runs from July to November and the spring semester runs from February to June, in accordance with the Australian system.

Australia. IES: Sydney, University of Sydney

This institution offers a large selection of courses, with strengths in agriculture, engineering, classics, English, Asian studies, archaeology, history, economics, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, and marine studies.

Australia. University of Melbourne 

This semester-long program located in Melbourne gives Penn State students the opportunity to learn alongside Australian students in a city that has been ranked the second-best city in the world to be a student. The fall semester runs from July to November and the spring semester runs from February to June, in accordance with the Australian system. Engineering students in BME, ChE, CMPSC, EE, and ME can take major courses at the University of Melbourne.

Australia. Monash University, Melbourne 

Engineering students in ChE, AE, EE, ME, AERO, CE, IE, BME, CMPSC, and ESM have the opportunity to participate in an exchange program at Monash University in Melbourne. This cosmopolitan city was recently ranked the second-best city in the world to be a student. Monash has multiple campuses but many exchange students take courses at the Clayton campus, which is located 13 miles from the central business district and is the site of one of the most important science and technology parks in the state of Victoria.

Australia. University of New South Wales, Sydney 

This semester-long exchange program in Sydney gives students the opportunity to participate in faculty-led trips before or after their regular semester. Through student-led projects, students will develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of engineers in practice. Students must complete at least 2.5 years of their studies to be eligible for this program. Engineering students in BME, ChE, CE, CMPEN, EE, AERO, ME, and IE can take major courses at this university.

New Zealand. University of Auckland

Engineering students in ME, IE, BME, ChE, CE, CMPSC, and EE have the opportunity to do an exchange program in Auckland, New Zealand. The university is located in the heart of the city, surrounded by harbors, dormant volcanoes, islands, and beaches. Students take classes with local students and enroll in classes after arriving in New Zealand. This program is only open to College of Engineering students with junior standing.

New Zealand. University of Waikato, Hamilton 

The University of Waikato, located in Hamilton (on the North Island), offers a wide range of engineering subjects including BE, CE, CHE, CMPEN, CMPSC, EE, and ME. Students take classes with local students and enroll in classes after arriving in New Zealand.  Hamilton is located just over an hour by car from the coast and three hours south of ski fields.

Located in the New Zealand capital city of Wellington, the Victoria University offers international students the opportunity to study various fields in engineering and computer science. Students take classes with local students and enroll in classes after arriving in New Zealand.
